Mike has won substantial verdicts and settlements in legal malpractice, personal injury, premises liability, sexual misconduct, and employment cases. He frequently writes friend-of-the-court briefs for the American Diabetes Association in courts throughout the country, including the United States Supreme Court. He is a national authority on legal malpractice and diabetes discrimination matters.

Mike has been involved with the American Diabetes Association since 1982. He served as Chair of the National Board of Directors from 1994-1995, created a legal advocacy program to fight discrimination on behalf of people with diabetes and set up a foundation to fund diabetes research. As a result of those efforts, Mike has been awarded the Dr. Charles H. Best Award for Distinguished Service to the American Diabetes Association (in 1997) and the Wendell Mayes, Jr. Award for Outstanding Service in the Cause of Diabetes (in 2000). In 2013, Mike received two notable awards: Father of the Year from the Father's Day Council in Portland, Ore. and Distinguished Trial Lawyer from the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association.
